About Kenneth Shelton

Ken is a multi-award-winning educator, best-selling author, international keynote speaker, and recognized thought leader whose work spans educational technology, artificial intelligence, leadership development, learning experience design, and educational equity. He holds a Master’s degree in Education, specializing in Educational Technology and New Media Design and Production, and brings more than two decades of experience as an educator, consultant, and leader across classrooms, school systems, and organizations worldwide.

Ken is the co-author of the best-selling book The Promises and Perils of AI in Education: Ethics and Equity Have Entered the Chat and is a leading voice in conversations about artificial intelligence and its implications for teaching, learning, leadership, and educational systems. His work challenges institutions to move beyond conversations centered solely on tools, productivity, and efficiency and instead examine larger questions of ethics, bias, access, power, human agency, and educational purpose. He helps organizations develop responsible AI policies, build AI literacy, evaluate emerging technologies, and design professional learning that prepares educators and leaders to make informed, intentional decisions.

Ken’s contributions to education have earned him numerous honors for leadership, innovation, equity, and impact. He is a two-time award recipient from the International Society for Technology in Education, receiving the Digital Equity Professional Learning Network Excellence Award in 2018 and the Making IT Happen Award in 2022 for his sustained commitment to improving digital learning opportunities for students. In 2024, he received the CUE Platinum Disc Award, recognizing his significant contributions to the advancement of technology in education and his career-long commitment to the field. Ken has also received industry recognition and has been included on prominent lists identifying influential and impactful leaders shaping education and educational technology.

Ken’s work is grounded in his experience as a classroom educator. Having spent a significant portion of his career teaching technology at the middle school level, he brings a practitioner’s perspective to larger conversations about innovation, policy, leadership, and systemic change. Throughout his career, he has focused on the intersection of innovation, equity, and meaningful educational transformation—helping educators and leaders consider not simply what technology can do, but when it adds value, whom it serves, and how it can be intentionally designed to improve learning.

His areas of expertise include organizational leadership, school and district transformation, policy analysis and development, inclusive learning environments, digital and media literacy, instructional and learning experience design, cultural intelligence, access and opportunity, and the ethical and responsible integration of artificial intelligence in education. He has contributed to statewide policy efforts through service on a California State Superintendent of Public Instruction’s Education Technology Task Force and has worked with schools, districts, state departments of education, ministries of education, nonprofits, NGOs, and other organizations nationally and internationally. His consulting and advisory work supports leaders navigating complex questions involving emerging technologies, organizational change, policy development, professional learning, and responsible innovation.

As an international keynote speaker, Ken has shared his work with audiences at conferences, schools, universities, NGOs, government agencies, and education-focused gatherings around the world.
